DIY Compost heat cooker
Cooking meals in a DIY compost cooker is supposed to help people who live a very ecological and environment friendly lifestyle.
Ideas to cook in the heat of a compost pile have already occurred and have been documented. This DIY product is supposed to make this process easier while making it safer and more hygienic.
To make the whole process successful you need to comply with the rules of composting:
- keep 1:1 proportions of carbon materials (leaves, paper) and nitrogen materials (coffee, veggies, grass)
- small size of the composting material
- proper density of the composting material - air ventilation
Using the compost cooker is very easy and accessible for both - as the kitchen and as the composting bin.
To use it as a compost bin just unscrew the barrel and throw in your compost material, to unload the ready compost material, tilt the barrel so you can get the material easily on the wheelbarrow.
To use it as a cooker, tilt the barrel 180 and open the kitchen cylinder - put in it your hermetically locked food container, let it cook for a couple of hours, take it out and enjoy your meal.
To make the project some technical inspirations were needed.
The project consists of “hot composting” and “ tumbling bin composting” which maintains and supports the highest temperatures of the composting material. As for the cooking - the needed techniques of cooking are: “sous-vide” or “slow cooker” - these methods let you cook at lower temperatures keeping in all the vitamins and nourishment.
That is why the whole barrel is rotary and it is isolated inside. The project suggests putting in the cooker your prepared for the cooking meal in the morning, letting it sit inside the high temperatures for a couple of hours when you work, and taking it out when you come back home in the evening.
The compost cooker is a Do It Yourself - DIY project. To do it at home all by yourself you can buy all the needed products as prefabricated elements in stationary and online shops combine them properly and it is ready to use - compost in it and also cook in it!
